17 Athletes Named for Arjuna Awards

National Sports Awards 2025:There are 17 sportspersons who have been conferred with the National Sports Awards for the year 2025 on the basis of their superior performances in various sporting competitions. Some of the sportspersons getting these awards are World Cup winner in chess, Divya Deshmukh, Badminton player Gayatri Gopichand, and Boxer Narender, who won the silver medal at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games.

Divya Deshmukh Among Key Names

So far, 17 sports personalities have been conferred the National Sports Awards for the year 2025 due to their commendable performances in various sporting events. Some of the sportspersons receiving these awards are Divya Deshmukh, who is the World Cup-winning chess player; Gayatri Gopichand, who is the badminton player; and Narender, the boxer who bagged a silver medal in the Glasgow Commonwealth Games.

Gayatri Gopichand and Treesa Jolly Recognised

Also among those to be awarded are the women's doubles pair of badminton players Gayatri Gopichand and Treesa Jolly. The two have made their mark as a significant women's doubles team and have participated on behalf of India in many international tournaments. This is in light of the excellent performance by Indians in badminton.

Vidit Gujrathi and Other Athletes on List

One more popular individual who forms a part of the list of the Arjuna Awards recipients is Vidit Gujrathi, who is a grandmaster. This adds up to the total number of individuals from the game of chess in addition to other games played in India. Tejaswin Shankar is a decathlete and high jumper who has represented India in various international events and is one more individual who has received the Arjuna Award. Dhanush Srikanth, who is a deaf shooter, is yet another young sportsperson who is on the list of the 17 sportspersons.

No Khel Ratna Award Announced

When making the announcements for the nominations for the Arjuna Award, the Sports Ministry did not nominate any athlete for the Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award in this year. The Khel Ratna award is the highest sporting award of India and is awarded for excellence in performance in the field of sport. The lack of an awardee makes this year's National Sports Awards unique.There are 17 nominees for the Arjuna Award in the various sports including chess, badminton, boxing, athletics, and shooting. This shows that there has been increase in the sporting talent of India. The nomination of established players along with young ones further emphasizes the increased sporting talent of India.
