Air India’s Vista Digital Platform aims to transform seatback screens into connected digital hubs

Air India has shared a first look at the Air India Vista Digital Platform. It is a new connected in flight entertainment system meant to change how people watch shows and use digital services on board. Air India built the platform using its own design and software groups. It is meant to work with the existing in flight entertainment hardware. The company also says the platform includes new ideas that are still awaiting patent review. The airline will not roll it out all at once. It will start with certain new aircraft deliveries. After that, it plans to add the platform to more planes as the fleet work moves forward. Air India says the goal is a more personal onboard experience. It also aims for the same feel across different aircraft and different IFE hardware units.

Seatback Screen Set to Do More Than Play Movies

Most in flight entertainment systems work like separate tools. They connect little to the rest of what an airline runs online. Air India’s Vista Digital Platform is meant to take a new route. The airline says the system will use a modern software setup. It will also rely on artificial intelligence and inflight connectivity. With that mix, Air India expects to add new media and functions with less effort. The goal is for the seatback screen to matter more. The airline wants it to act like a key online stop, not only a viewer. Satya Ramaswamy, Chief Digital and Technology Officer at Air India, pointed to progress in open source operating systems, satellite broadband service, and AI. He said this is a chance to rethink what happens inside the cabin. Air India also notes that Vista may later support personal entertainment options and shopping features. It says these could appear right on the seatback screen.

Consistent Experience Across Air India Aircraft

The Air India Vista Digital Platform is meant to feel the same across the airline’s aircraft. Right now, flyers may see different in flight entertainment setups depending on the plane they board. Vista is built to keep the screens and menus familiar from flight to flight. It also plans to handle software and content updates over the air. That means Air India can add fixes and new options without waiting for the usual hardware changes.

Built for Air India’s digital services

Vista is meant to run with Air India’s mobile app, the airline site, and the backend systems. In time, travelers might use the seat screen to reach loyalty options, flight updates, and some booking tools. Air India also wants the mobile app to act like a partner to the in flight system. Travelers may look through movies, shows, and other entertainment before boarding. After that, they could keep the same picks once the flight starts.

Entertainment that follows you

A key part of Vista is what happens across trips. Instead of starting over on every flight, a passenger might pick up a film or show from the point where they left it in an earlier Air India journey. The screen design is also planned with current streaming and OTT services in mind. The system could suggest options that match what a passenger likes. Suggestions may include movies, series, music, games, reading items, kids content, meal choices, and travel related services.

Commerce on Map

The platform will add a patent pending “commerce-on-map” option. It may help riders find and book activities or travel services tied to places they are flying to, or thinking about visiting. This concept aims to mix in flight entertainment with tools for learning about destinations, plus buying options, all in one flow.

Air India Vista Digital Platform

The Air India Vista Digital Platform is part of the airline’s wider push to build its own technology set. Rather than seeing inflight entertainment as just a piece of aircraft hardware, Air India plans to treat the seatback screen as software that can be updated. When connected services are used, along with personal features, AI suggestions, and possible buying tools, Vista could sit at the center of the passenger journey. Air India says Vista will act as a base for new digital features. It plans to roll the platform out step by step across its fleet.
