Houthi Attack: Yemeni authorities said that six people were killed after Iran-backed Houthi rebels attacked a commercial vessel in the strategically important Bab el-Mandeb Strait on Wednesday, kind of a grim, turning point. The incident is being described as the first confirmed deaths tied to Houthi strikes on shipping routes off Yemen during the latest phase of the regional conflict.
As Yemen’s coast guard reported, the victims included four crew members and also two individuals from the government-allied National Resistance Forces. Officials from Yemen’s internationally recognized government added that the Houthis fired three ballistic missiles at the commercial vessel while it was moving through the vital maritime corridor linking the Red Sea to the Gulf of Aden. Pakistan then strongly condemned the attack after it confirmed that three Pakistani nationals were among those killed.
