Canon EOS R8 Mark II: Full-Frame Mirrorless Camera Announced

Canon EOS R8 Mark II: Canon has launched its line-up of full-frame mirrorless cameras by introducing the new EOS R8 Mark II that targets photographers and content creators who require a compact camera body along with full-frame performance. It was officially introduced on September 15, 2026, in New York and offers many enhancements in comparison to the original EOS R8 including a revised body design, image stabilization, and better autofocus options. Canon has not changed its compact philosophy while introducing the new camera but has introduced an angular body design. Multi-Controller joystick has been included by Canon on the back of the camera.

24.2MP Full Frame Sensor

The Canon EOS R8 Mark II comes packed with a 24.2 MP full frame CMOS sensor. This same resolution sensor has been incorporated in the EOS R8 and EOS R6 Mark II, where this new camera will continue to emphasize on picture quality under various lighting conditions. The most notable addition to this camera is 5-axis in-body image stabilization. According to Canon, the in-body IS can offer up to 7.5 stops of correction in the middle and 7 stops correction at the edges.

40fps Burst Mode Shooting

Another feature that makes the EOS R8 Mark II perfect for shooting fast action scenes is its electronic shutter which allows the camera to capture images continuously at the speed of 40 frames per second. This camera does not have a stacked or semi-stacked sensor, which means that the rolling shutter effect might be visible when rapidly moving the camera across the frame. In addition, Canon improved the buffer of the camera. The burst mode shooting of JPEG images allows for taking up to 190 images and RAW images – up to 73 images.

Improved Autofocus with Subject Detection

The other feature that has been added to the camera is that of autofocus. It comes with dual pixel CMOS AF II which incorporates tracking and subject detection of humans, animals and vehicles. The subject detection for animals will cover such animals as pets, birds and horses. Vehicle detection is meant for motorsport, trains and airplanes. When it comes to human subjects, the detection is on the head, upper body or eyes. The photographer will be able to detect the right side or left side eye priority.

4K 60p Video Recording and Canon Log 3

In addition, videographers have access to a variety of sophisticated video features. This Canon camera model enables recording of 4K videos at 60 fps, featuring 10-bit internal recording as well as Canon Log 3. Some of the other options offered by this camera include recording in HDR modes such as PQ and HLG. Full HD recording can be performed at up to 180p for slow motion footage. Moreover, Canon offers its users the EG-E2 Extension Grip that can be used by those who prefer larger grips and big lenses.
