AFG vs IND T20 2026: Sanju Samson Powers India to Series Win

AFG vs IND T20 2026: India managed to showcase yet another strong inning as they beat Afghanistan in the second T20I of their three-game series held at Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi. Batting first after being asked to bat, India set a target of 160 runs for Afghanistan which they chased down in 14.5 overs for the loss of only three wickets winning the game by seven wickets. However, the highlight of India's chase against Afghanistan in this T20 game was Sanju Samson's batting innings. In his brief innings, he scored a total of 57 runs off just 22 balls hitting seven fours and four sixes with an impressive strike rate of 259.09.

Sanju Samson Sets the Tone

India began their innings on an explosive note as Samson and Abhishek Sharma went after the Afghan bowling right from the start. The duo ensured that India crossed the 50-run mark in just 4.4 overs. In six overs, India reached 82 for 0, continuing with their onslaught all through the power play. Abhishek contributed 39 runs from just 19 deliveries. Samson took only 20 balls to get to his fifty, but the relief for Afghanistan came via its skipper Rashid Khan. Khan first sent back Abhishek, then four balls later, Samson followed the same path.

Rashid Khan Claims Three Wickets

Rashid Khan continued to be the most economical bowler for Afghanistan when India went for their run chase. After having sent Abhishek Sharma and Sanju Samson back into the pavilion, Rashid even dismissed Shreyas Iyer, captain of India, who made 11 runs. Though the statistics of Rashid were 3/36, the wickets of Rashid had come when India was well-placed in their run chase. As India were down to 123/3 in the 11th over, Afghanistan was once again presented with a chance to make a comeback. But the unbeaten partnership between Ishan Kishan and Tilak Varma helped India seal their victory comfortably. Ishan Kishan ended up unbeaten on 38 off 23 balls while Tilak Varma stayed unbeaten on 15 off 14 balls.

Afghanistan Manage 159/8

Previously, Afghanistan were required to bat first and had found it difficult to post a large score. The batting side had received an early jolt after their opener Rahmanullah Gurbaz got out for a duck to Arshdeep Singh in the second over. Jasprit Bumrah too had bowled a maid in the very first over. In an attempt to bail his side out, the captain Ibrahim Zadran made 37 off 33 deliveries. But the Indian bowlers kept on striking as soon as Afghanistan gained some momentum. Sediqullah Atal made 12 before getting out against Ravi Bishnoi. Then, Darwish Rasooli offered some acceleration with a 26-ball 26, which included two sixes.

Nitish Kumar Reddy Paces India’s Bowling Lineup

India’s bowling lineup was headed by Nitish Kumar Reddy, who put on a career-high performance. Nitish took three wickets for only 24 runs and contributed effectively to keeping the Afghan side score 159/8 in 20 overs. The Afghan side received a late injection by Rashid Khan, who scored 28 runs off 16 balls, which included three fours and a six. Eventually, Nitish got Rashid out in the last over of the game. After that, the Indian team did not take long to chase down the target of 160 runs.

India Seize 2-0 Series Lead

By virtue of their victory in both games of the three-match series, India now hold an unassailable 2-0 series lead against Afghanistan. The final T20I clash will be played at the same venue tomorrow. Brief Scorecard: Afghanistan 159/8 in 20 overs (Ibrahim Zadran 37; Nitish Kumar Reddy 3/24) lost to India 163/3 in 14.5 overs (Sanju Samson 57; Rashid Khan 3/36) by seven wickets.
