Parliament’s Monsoon Session 2026: A heated happened in the Lok Sabha on the seventh day of Parliament’s Monsoon Session 2026, where AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi went for the government’s proposed anti-paper leak legislation in a pretty sharp way. While joining the debate on the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Amendment Bill, 2026, Owaisi made a sarcastic jab at the Centre, saying that if the government keeps going like this , officials may as well “do lathi charge after every paper leak.” Those words triggered quick reactions from both treasury benches and the opposition.

The Bill tries to bolder strengthen the current anti-paper leak law, by pushing stricter penalties, dedicated investigation mechanisms, and fast track courts for those cases involving examination malpractice. Opposition leaders, however , seemed unsure if tougher laws alone could really sort the ongoing trouble of examination leaks. Quite a few MPs raised worries about how student protests were managed, those protests popped up after the recent exam controversies. Owaisi said the government was paying more mind to controlling demonstrators rather than tackling the deeper, systemic failures that make these leaks happen in the first place.

The debate comes amid growing political pressure over examination irregularities and allegations of excessive force against protesting students.
