Delhi Police arrested three men in west Delhi and seized 1,398 reels of banned Chinese manjha being transported for illegal sale.

Three men were arrested in west Delhi, after police recovered 1,398 reels of banned Chinese manjha from a car allegedly being used to transport the prohibited kite string for illegal sale. The whole thing was carried out by the Crime Branch, on the basis of a tip-off, about the movement of a large lot of banned manjha in the area.

The accused were named Rajesh , Asad and Sohail, they were caught during a late night operation on Tuesday. Police also seized the vehicle that, was being used to shift the banned material. A case has been lodged at the Crime Branch police station in Pushp Vihar.

Officials said that the Crime Branch got some secret tip on Aug 8, saying Rajesh, a resident of Nangloi, along with his associates, would come near Khayala and they will bring a big stash of banned Chinese or plastic manjha for spreading around, and for selling. On the same basis, a special team was arranged and a trap was put up in that stretch . Around 2 a.m. on Tuesday, police noticed a silver colored car moving from the Khayala-Paschim Vihar drain sider, towards Raghubir Nagar. The vehicle was stopped, and the people inside were taken into custody. While checking the car, officers came across several plastic bags and cardboard boxes, inside which there were reels of the banned manjha. Police added that the recovered material was being carried in breach of notifications put out by the Environment Department of Delhi, where Chinese and plastic manjha have been prohibited , including making, sale, storage, and use. The department says this is because of the serious hazards it creates for humans, birds, and overall public safety .

During questioning, the accused allegedly said that they were moving the consignment for commercial sale. Police stated Rajesh and Asad work as labourers, while Sohail has completed ITI training and is also doing labour work. Investigators are now working around identify the source of the banned manjha, and then trace other people connected to its production, storage, transportation, and distribution. Authorities have again reiterated that they remain serious about cracking down on the unlawful trade of hazardous kite strings, specially ahead of festive time and kite flying seasons .
