The 90-foot statue was consecrated in August 2024 and has since become a prominent religious landmark for the Hindu community in the region.

Hindu-American Community Reacts

Hughes’ post was criticized by Ruchir Bakshi, a US Army veteran who identifies as an American Hindu. Bakshi described the remarks as a threat against Hinduism and questioned the idea of targeting another religious community’s place of worship.Bakshi said that religious differences should not become a reason to threaten or vandalize a place of worship.
