Santy Sharma Launches 'Reservation Hatao – August Kranti' Campaign in Mumbai
Mumbai: Rapper and singer Santy Sharma has launched a new awareness campaign called “Reservation Hatao – August Kranti”, which will help generate discourse regarding reservation, merit, and equality. The launch of the campaign took place during a press conference organized in Andheri West, Mumbai, where actor Puneet Vasishtha also made his presence felt and showed his support for the campaign.
The launch of the campaign is happening after some recent hype related to Sharma's social media posts and the statement on reservation along with the student group named Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) by the singer.
Campaign to Launch Through Social Media
During the conference, Sharma highlighted that the campaign would be a public movement and will act as an invitation for people to debate the issue of reservation. Sharma stated that this campaign would begin from the social media but in the future, it will also reach out to other digital platforms.
As per the rapper, an Instagram page will soon be created for the campaign and people can join this movement who have similar issues.
Sharma on CJP Issue
A considerable part of the press conference revolved around the CJP issue which has been generating a lot of controversy. Sharma said that he is with the students and he believes that their voices should be heard. But he made it clear that he is against what he referred to as the "politicisation" of their protests.
Further, he accused some people who took part in some protests of being non-students and said that incidents of vandalism cannot be tolerated. Sharma made it clear that he was referring to the organisation itself and its leadership and not to students in general.
These remarks were made by Sharma during the press conference and reflect his claims and opinions.
Not Involved with Politics
Answering queries related to politics, Sharma refuted the allegation of having anything to do with political parties such as BJP, Congress, or any other political party for that matter. He also refuted the allegations of receiving any political funds.
As per Sharma, the reason for initiating this movement was his understanding that none of the major political parties was addressing the issue of reservations.
Puneet Vasishtha Backs the Initiative
Popular actor Puneet Vasishtha, famous for his stint on Bigg Boss, backed the campaign at the press meet.
Expressing his views, Vasishtha believed that people from weaker economic sections must be helped irrespective of castes. He further pointed out that competitive examinations must remain academically equivalent and ensure that the needy ones must get financial help.
He concluded by stating that the discourse on reservations must revolve around merit, equality, and financial help.
Sharma Talks about YouTube Channel Closure
During his interactions with the media, Sharma talked about the controversy regarding his YouTube channel.
According to Sharma, his YouTube channel was shut down for good following the series of reports after his remarks made on CJP. Sharma revealed that his YouTube channel had years of his efforts in it and he has been told that the channel will not be available anymore.
However, there has been no information from YouTube about the closure of Sharma's channel or its connection with his CJP remarks.
Now, Sharma is in the process of launching a new YouTube channel.
Upcoming Song "August Kranti"
In response to criticism about the language in some of his songs, the rapper stated that his work was an embodiment of the artistry in the hip-hop culture. He further explained that some songs had age restrictions imposed on them.
Near the end of the press meet, Sharma unveiled his upcoming song "August Kranti." As per him, the song would cover topics like reservation, politics, and civic governance issues.
