Google Confirms Pixel 11 Price Hike Ahead of Launch
New Delhi: Google has officially confirmed that the upcoming Pixel 11 series will be more expensive than previous models, citing a global RAM supply crisis as the primary reason behind the price increase. Ahead of the Made by Google event scheduled for August 12, the company also revealed that it is working on making Android significantly more RAM-efficient to reduce the impact of rising memory costs.
The announcement comes as the global semiconductor industry continues to face supply challenges, forcing technology companies to revise pricing strategies for smartphones and other consumer devices.
Global RAM Crisis Driving Higher Prices
Speaking about the issue, Shakil Barkat, Vice President of Devices and Services at Google, said the company is experiencing an unprecedented rise in memory costs.
According to Google, the price of 1 GB of RAM has increased dramatically—from approximately $2.80 in 2025 to nearly $12 in 2026, making it one of the biggest cost increases the hardware industry has witnessed in recent years.
The company said it had absorbed rising component costs for as long as possible, but the current market conditions have made price adjustments unavoidable.
Pixel 11 Series to Cost More
Google confirmed that the entire Pixel family will see pricing adjustments, including the upcoming Pixel 11 lineup. While the company has not disclosed official prices, recent reports suggest that several Pixel 11 models could see a $100 price increase.
Industry leaks indicate:
- Pixel 11 and Pixel 11 Pro may cost around $100 more than their predecessors.
- Storage could increase from 128GB to 256GB on select models.
- Pixel 11 Pro XL and Pixel 11 Pro Fold are also expected to receive similar price hikes.
- The entry-level Pixel 11 Pro may reportedly feature 12GB RAM instead of 16GB to offset rising component costs.
Google said complete pricing details will be announced during the official launch event.
Existing Pixel Phones May Also Get Costlier
The company also hinted that currently available Pixel devices could see revised prices based on market conditions.
Although Google did not specify which models would be affected, the statement suggests that even devices already on sale, including mid-range Pixel smartphones, could become more expensive in the coming months if supply constraints continue.
Google Optimizing Android for Lower RAM Usage
Alongside the pricing announcement, Google revealed that it has launched a dedicated engineering effort to make Android more memory-efficient.
The company said developers are working to reduce RAM requirements across Android and the broader app ecosystem so that future smartphones can deliver smooth performance with less physical memory.
Google believes this approach will help manufacturers maintain premium user experiences despite increasing hardware costs.
AI and Custom Chips to Improve Performance
Google also highlighted its investment in artificial intelligence, custom Tensor chips and software optimization.
According to the company, tighter integration between hardware, software and AI enables on-device features to run efficiently while consuming less memory. This strategy is expected to play an important role in future Pixel smartphones.
Launch Scheduled for August 12
The Pixel 11 series is expected to make its global debut at Google's Made by Google event on August 12. Along with new smartphones, the company is also expected to unveil updates to its wearable devices and AI-powered software features.
With component costs continuing to rise worldwide, Google's announcement signals that premium smartphones may become more expensive across the industry. However, the company says it will continue offering trade-in deals, promotional discounts and bundled services to keep Pixel devices accessible to consumers.
