PM Modi 76th Birthday: Gujarat Marks Occasion With Diyas, Saplings, Cow Donations and Bike Rallies
The celebrations marking the 76th Birthday of PM Modi took place in various religious, social, and community programs across the state of Gujarat on September 17. These included the lighting of 76,000 diyas, 76 Gir Cows gifted to poor women, distribution of 76,000 plants and launching of a bike rally from Vadnagar to Varanasi.
Lighting 76,000 Diyas in Ahmedabad
The Patidar community organization Vishva Umiyadham organized the midnight program near Vaishnodevi circle in Ahmedabad with Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel in attendance. According to the organizers, about 5,000 people would participate in this program. The program included Maha Aarti at Goddess Umiya and blessings for the longevity of the Prime Minister. Participants would chant Vande Mataram at midnight while 76,000 diyas would be lit as a symbolic gesture of the birth of Modi turning 76.
Donation of 76 Gir Cows to Poor Women
There was another scheme wherein 76 Gir cows were donated to 76 poor women belonging to weaker economic sections. These cows were donated by Sitavan Gaushala, which is managed by the family of BJP MLA Babu Patel. According to the organisers, this scheme was initiated for giving employment and making women self-dependent. It can be seen that the birth day celebration was linked with an earning scheme based on dairy and cow rearing.
Campaign of Distribution of 76,000 Saplings for Kitchen Garden
As well, a campaign of distribution of 76,000 saplings for kitchen gardens was started by Vishwa Gujarati Samaj. This project was aimed at encouraging people to grow their own vegetables and creating awareness about cultivation and healthy lifestyle. According to information provided by The Indian Express, the beneficiaries will also get training on methods of cultivation.
Lakhs of Earthen Lamps in Surat
There were also big preparations for celebrating the birthday of Narendra Modi in Surat. It was reported that BJP supporters had planned to light up to 10 lakh earthen lamps in different places of the city. The planned events also included lighting of diyas in temples, Ganesh mandals, booths, and other community places. According to another report of The Times of India, there was an even larger programme of lighting more than 88 lakh diyas in over 18,500 places under the “Aashirvad No Divdo” programme in the entire state of Gujarat. Special programmes in Surat West involved Maha Aarti and discounts announced by participating shops and businesses. It was reported that discounts from 5% to 76% would be offered at over 2,000 places.
Seva Sankalp Bike Yatra
The BJP has also launched the Seva Sankalp Bike Yatra, which has two tracks from Vadnagar to Varanasi. The bike yatra started from September 17 and is expected to end on October 7, when Narendra Modi became Gujarat’s Chief Minister in 2001. The Union Home Minister Amit Shah has been scheduled to launch the journey from Vadnagar to Varanasi track, whereas the Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has been scheduled to launch the journey from Varanasi to Vadnagar track. The programmes in Gujarat are among several programmes that are part of the larger activities being conducted on the occasion of the Prime Minister’s birth anniversary and the BJP’s “Seva Sankalp Abhiyan.”
