Naseeruddin Shah met and hugged Abhijeet Dipke ahead of CJP’s protest at Mumbai’s Shivaji Park
Veteran actor Naseeruddin Shah reportedly met Abhijeet Dipke, the founder of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), in Mumbai. This happened before the party’s planned “Jail Bharo Andolan” protest. The protest is aimed at Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. A clip from the meeting has gone up online. In the video, Shah can be seen greeting Dipke. Shah also hugs him. The meeting occurred before the CJP’s event at Shivaji Park in Mumbai on October 2. The party says it will demand Gyanesh Kumar step down. Their demand is tied to alleged irregularities in the electoral-roll revision process.
Naseeruddin Shah hugs Abhijeet Dipke
Dipke posted a clip of the moment. In it, Naseeruddin Shah walks up to the CJP founder while they are both on stage. They greet each other first, then Shah wraps him in a hug. People noticed the exchange right away online. Dipke also uploaded the meeting and said he was surprised to meet the veteran actor. Other posts claimed that Shah and Dipke spoke briefly and praised one another. This happened as CJP was getting ready for its protest on October 2 in Mumbai. Shah’s presence made the gathering feel more high profile, even though the event is mainly about electoral and institutional concerns.
What is the CJP protest about?
The Cockroach Janta Party has said it will hold a countrywide agitation against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. In Mumbai, the protest was planned to start at 4 pm near Gate No. 6 of Shivaji Park on Gandhi Jayanti. Abhijeet Dipke, who leads the group, said they want Kumar to step down. The protesters also questioned the Special Intensive Revision, or SIR, of the voter lists. They asked for more clarity in how the next Election Commissioner is selected. At the same time, the Election Commission said its voter-roll work follows the law. The Commission also said it will review its voter-roll software. This comes after people raised worries about changes made to electoral records.Security Tightened Around Shivaji Park
Security was tightened near Shivaji Park in Dadar ahead of the event. Police were put on alert around the protest site and at roads that people use to get there. The CJP had asked for permission to hold the protest at Shivaji Park first. Mumbai Police said no. After that, Dipke said the group would push ahead with a “Jail Bharo Andolan” plan. The group also said the campaign will not stay only in Mumbai. Dipke mentioned rallies in other cities, and he said the effort may later reach Delhi, at Jantar Mantar.
More famous names turn up at the protest
Naseeruddin Shah was not the only well known figure linked to the Mumbai event. Singer Vishal Dadlani showed up at Shivaji Park and spoke to people there. Reports also said that actress Shabana Azmi attended the demonstration. Because entertainment figures took part, the CJP campaign has gotten extra attention from the public. Still, that does not mean the wider public agrees, or that these performers hold a clear political view on the dispute over the electoral roll. For now, the meeting between Naseeruddin Shah and Abhijeet Dipke has become one of the most talked about parts of the Mumbai protest. A video showing their friendly chat, a hug, and words of praise has been shared widely as the CJP pushes on with its campaign about electoral roll issues.
