Bengaluru, August 3, 2026: The Congress high command has approved the names of 20 MLAs for induction into the Karnataka Cabinet, paving the way for a major expansion of the DK Shivakumar-led government. The swearing-in ceremony is scheduled to take place at the Glass House in Lok Bhavan, Bengaluru, where Governor Thawar Chand Gehlot will administer the oath of office to the new ministers.
The cabinet expansion comes nearly two months after DK Shivakumar assumed office as Chief Minister. According to party leaders, the exercise aims to ensure regional, caste, and community representation while strengthening the Congress government's administrative and political balance ahead of key governance challenges.
Several prominent Congress legislators have found a place in the new cabinet. Among those cleared by the party high command are B. Nagendra, B.Z. Zameer Ahmed Khan, Rizwan Arshad, and Ajay Singh, son of former Karnataka Chief Minister Dharam Singh. The induction also includes a mix of experienced leaders and first-time ministers, reflecting the party's attempt to balance continuity with fresh leadership.
Party insiders say the final list was prepared after multiple rounds of discussions involving senior Congress leaders, including the central leadership. The selection process reportedly focused on maintaining social and regional representation while accommodating leaders from different factions within the party.
The cabinet expansion has also marked the return of B. Nagendra, who is making a political comeback after being out of the ministry. His inclusion has attracted significant attention, while several senior leaders who were considered strong contenders have reportedly missed out on ministerial berths.
Political observers believe the reshuffle is an important step for the Congress government as it looks to strengthen governance, improve coordination within the administration, and address regional aspirations across Karnataka. The induction of 20 ministers is expected to fill key portfolios and provide greater administrative efficiency in the state.
The swearing-in ceremony is expected to be attended by senior Congress leaders, legislators, and party workers. Portfolio allocation is likely to be announced shortly after the ministers take oath.
