Jharkhand Protesters March to Vidhan Sabha

Thousands of students took part in the Vidhan Sabha Gherao march in Ranchi, demanding a CBI probe into alleged recruitment exam irregularities.

Jharkhand Protesters March : The agitation by Jharkhand students, and job aspirants over alleged irregularities in state recruitment exams intensified on Monday, as thousands took part in the planned ‘Vidhan Sabha Gherao’ march in Ranchi. The protest, which has been running for more than two weeks, saw heavy police deployment and tough security steps around the Jharkhand Assembly premises . Authorities imposed prohibitory orders in the area to prevent any untoward incidents and maintain law and order.‘Vidhan Sabha Gherao’

Protesters said that a lot of students, traveling from various districts in Jharkhand, got stopped by the police when they tried to reach the state capital. Even with these limits in place , large numbers of aspirants still ended up gathering in Ranchi, to push forward their demands on transparency and responsibility in government recruitment examinations .

The march comes a day after Jharkhand government said it would cancel the 14th Jharkhand Public Service Commission, or JPSC, Preliminary Examination plus the JPSC Backlog Examinations held in 2023 and 2025, without much delay. The move came after almost six hours of talks, government representatives with student groups went back and forth, and then it got finalized. In a big startling turn of events three members of the JPSC also chose to resign, amid increasing pressure related to the recruitment controversy, and it all felt like it happened fast, despite everyone saying there was time.

Chief Minister Hemant Soren told the protesters that the government is firmly committed to making sure justice comes first, and transparency really happens. He also said, with a emphasis, that dialogue should be chosen over confrontation. At the same time he added that wherever any irregularities were spotted, appropriate action will be taken.

However, student groups— including the Jharkhand Loktantrik Krantikari Morcha (JLKM) and the JPSC-JSSC Reforms Manch, still seem not at all happy with how the government answered this. The protest leaders have gone back to repeating their main insistence, that there should be a CBI probe into the alleged irregularities around the JSSC-CGL examination. On top of that, they are also pressing for the cancellation of the JSSC-CGL exam and the other tests which they say are connected with TSR Data Processing Private Limited, a “blacklisted” agency according to the protesters.

While the government says that most of the protesters’ demands are already addressed, student organizations keep insisting the whole thing isnt done, and that their movement will keep going until a CBI probe is ordered and every disputed examination is examined thoroughly. The stand off has made the recruitment exam controversy become, sort of one of Jharkhand’s biggest youth led protest movements in recent years.
