Akash Ganga personnel perform parachute jumps as MI-17 showcases slithering skills in Raipur
Raipur Air Show: The Indian Air Force (IAF) showcased its exceptional skills, training and operational capabilities during an impressive air show organised as part of the Chhattisgarh Rajyotsav celebrations in Raipur. On the second day of the state festival, eight personnel from the Indian Air Force's Akash Ganga team performed a thrilling parachute jump from an altitude of approximately 8,000 feet using a C-295 aircraft. The performance attracted considerable attention from spectators as the personnel demonstrated remarkable control and coordination in the air before landing safely. The breathtaking display was among the major attractions of the air show, which aimed to introduce people, particularly young audiences, to the capabilities and functioning of the Indian Air Force.
Akash Ganga Team Performs Parachute Jump from 8,000 Feet
The highlight of the second day's programme was the parachute jumping performance by eight members of the Akash Ganga team. The personnel jumped from a C-295 aircraft at an altitude of around 8,000 feet. During the descent, the airmen maintained their balance and control while navigating through the sky with the help of their parachutes. They eventually completed their jumps with safe landings, drawing applause from the audience. The Akash Ganga team is known for its specialised parachuting demonstrations, which showcase the physical fitness, discipline and technical expertise required for airborne operations.
MI-17 Helicopter Demonstrates Slithering Technique
Another major attraction was the slithering demonstration performed by Indian Air Force personnel using an MI-17 helicopter. During the demonstration, personnel descended rapidly from the helicopter using ropes. This technique allows trained troops to reach locations where landing a helicopter may be difficult or impossible. Slithering is particularly useful during special operations and situations that require personnel to be deployed quickly in challenging terrain. The demonstration gave spectators an opportunity to understand how the Air Force uses specialised techniques to support military operations. The MI-17 helicopter also plays an important role in military missions, disaster management and humanitarian assistance. It is frequently used in flood situations and other emergencies for rescue and relief operations.
Sarang Team Had Earlier Presented Spectacular Aerial Formations
The air show also followed an impressive performance by the Indian Air Force's Sarang helicopter display team on November 1. All five helicopters of the Sarang team took to the skies together and performed several coordinated aerial formations. Their performance featured precise movements, close flying patterns and synchronised changes in direction. The helicopters created beautiful patterns in the sky using colourful smoke trails, making the display particularly attractive for spectators. The team's ability to maintain close coordination while performing complex aerial manoeuvres demonstrated the high level of training and precision required for such performances.
Air Show Aims to Inspire Young People
Beyond entertainment, the air show is also intended to familiarise people with the Indian Air Force's working methods, advanced technology and training standards. The demonstrations provide an opportunity for young people to witness the skills required in aviation and military operations. Organisers also aim to encourage students and aspiring candidates to explore career opportunities in the Indian Air Force. To ensure the smooth conduct of the event, approximately 700 to 800 police personnel have been deployed for security and crowd management.
Special Traffic and Parking Arrangements in Raipur
Considering the possibility of a large turnout, Raipur Rural Police has introduced special traffic and parking arrangements for visitors. Separate routes and parking locations have been designated for vehicles arriving from different directions. To make transportation easier, 20 buses and 55 e-rickshaws will operate between designated parking areas and the event venue. Visitors may also have to cover some distance on foot after reaching the parking locations.
Police Issues Advisory for Visitors
Raipur Rural Police has appealed to visitors to follow the designated traffic routes and use only the authorised parking areas. People have also been advised against parking vehicles unnecessarily along roads. Police officials have requested spectators to cooperate with personnel deployed on traffic and security duties. Visitors have been advised to leave home with sufficient time, considering possible traffic congestion and the walking distance between parking areas and the venue. With parachute jumps, helicopter manoeuvres and specialised military demonstrations, the Raipur air show has emerged as one of the major attractions of the Chhattisgarh Rajyotsav celebrations.
