Nana Patekar: How He Skipped a ₹1.5 Crore Car to Help Farmer Families
The experienced actor Nana Patekar is known for his straightforward nature and is sometimes described as an actor who does not think before he expresses his anger. But recently the scriptwriter, novelist, actor and filmmaker Ranbir Pushp brought up an interesting example to show the humanitarian side of the actor. Pushp stated that Nana Patekar was very saddened by the news reports of the loss of loved ones due to farmer suicides and that the actor was so much affected that he decided not to buy the expensive car but help the poor families.
Nana Patekar Preferred Helping Farmers Over Purchasing a Luxury Car
During a discussion in the podcast hosted by Siddharth Kannan, Ranbir Pushp revealed that Nana Patekar wanted to buy a car which costs around ₹1.5 crore. But, seeing the condition of the families who were victims of farmer suicide cases, he changed his mind and did not buy the car. Patekar contacted one of his friend artistes and asked him to make some ₹15,000 cheques to give them to the families of the farmers affected. This particular incident was mentioned by Pushp while talking about the perception of people regarding the temperament of Nana Patekar. He opined that people may have got a wrong perception of the actor due to his boldness. Pushp also mentioned the involvement of Patekar in philanthropy through NAAM Foundation, which has helped the farmers and their families.
Ranbir Pushp Justifies Nana Patekar’s Anger
Apart from justifying Amitabh Bachchan’s anger, Ranbir Pushp also talked about Nana Patekar’s anger issue. Instead of viewing Nana Patekar’s anger in a wholly negative light, Pushp related an episode that, in his opinion, proved the concern of Nana about his civic responsibilities. Pushp narrated an incident where Nana supposedly saw a man throwing a bottle on the ground from his car. He says that Patekar stopped his car at the traffic signal and asked the man regarding littering. In the narration of Pushp, Patekar asked him that it was not only the government’s responsibility but also a citizen’s responsibility to keep the nation clean. Patekar even quoted Mahatma Gandhi’s legacy and said that citizens too had a part to play in cleanliness. This episode was told by Pushp as a case where Patekar’s anger sprang up from his intense reactions to certain issues.
Ranbir Pushp Has Worked With Nana Patekar
There is a professional association between Ranbir Pushp and Nana Patekar. In the year 1996, Patekar and Pushp had worked together on the movie Agni Sakshi where Pushp was the screenwriter and Patekar played the lead. Patekar has maintained an image of being outspoken throughout his life as well as his career. Nana Patekar has been active in the entertainment industry for many years now. Besides this, he has done social work as well. In the incident of the ₹1.5 crore car, Pushp has shed light on how Nana Patekar gives importance to things other than money. According to Pushp, instead of buying a luxury car worth ₹1.5 crore, Patekar spent his money on helping out those who have faced the consequences of farmer suicides. This interview has brought the humanitarian side of Nana Patekar back into focus along with his work related to the farmers. On the other hand, this also shows that there is a reason behind Patekar’s outspokenness and temper.
