iPhone 17, 17e, iPhone Air and iPhone 16 prices rise in India
iPhone Prices: Apple has hiked the prices of some existing iPhone models in India after launching its new Pro series. This is in contrast to the normal practice of older iPhones being made cheaper once there is a new generation available. The models which have seen price hikes include the iPhone 17, iPhone 17e, iPhone Air, and iPhone 16. Price hikes have been observed across some existing iPhone models in India, with the iPhone Air 1TB having seen the largest price hike of Rs 65,000.
Rs 22,000 Increase in Price for iPhone 17
iPhone 17 with storage of 256GB now sells at Rs 99,900 in India. The earlier price for this model was Rs 82,900. Thus, there is a price hike of Rs 17,000. The 512GB variant has also been made costlier. It now comes at Rs 1,24,900 against the earlier price of Rs 1,02,900. There is a price rise of Rs 22,000 here. Thus, it can be seen that buyers who are looking for the common iPhone 17 after the arrival of the next generation model cannot expect to get the cheaper price.
iPhone Air Experiences the Largest Price Hike
In terms of the price hike, the iPhone Air experiences the largest increase among the other products. The 256GB storage model is priced at Rs 1,49,900, up from Rs 1,19,900 in the previous price structure. The 512GB capacity is being sold for Rs 1,74,900 as against Rs 1,39,900 previously. The highest price hike has been witnessed by the 1TB storage model. This device, which was priced at Rs 1,59,900 in the old pricing structure, now costs Rs 2,24,900. This is an exorbitant price increase of Rs.
Further, Apple has hiked the prices of the iPhone 17e. The 256GB variant will be available for Rs 79,900 as against Rs 64,900 previously. While the 512GB variant is available at a higher price of Rs 1,04,900 as against Rs 84,900 previously. Further, the iPhone 16 has also seen a price hike. The 128GB variant will be available for Rs 89,900 while previously, it was available at Rs 69,900.
Launch of iPhone 18 Pro and New Pro Max
The above price changes have been made after the launch of the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max models by Apple. The Pro models are being launched at prices starting from Rs 1,64,900 and Rs 1,79,900 respectively in India. Additionally, Apple has introduced its first foldable iPhone, the iPhone Duo.
Why Are iPhone Prices Going Up?
The last round of hikes has reportedly resulted from rising expenses of memory chips and other essential smartphone components. The IT industry is suffering from a shortage of memory components amid ever-increasing demand for them, especially with regard to the development of AI infrastructure and data centers. Component price hikes have added further pressure on the smartphone producers. Some have reacted to the situation by hiking their product retail prices, and Apple is one of the companies implementing the price hike policy now. For the Indian consumers, the new round of hikes implies that purchasing a less recent model of iPhone directly from the official Apple lineup will be much more expensive compared to before. The most pronounced hikes are those of iPhone Air 1TB, iPhone 17, and iPhone 17e models. Apple's continuing expansion of its premium smartphones lineup makes pricing and component costs the key factors for the potential iPhone buyers.
