Heavy rain and thunderstorms hit Delhi-NCR, causing waterlogging in several areas

Delhi-NCR saw heavy rain and thunder on Monday morning. Delhi and nearby areas woke up to bad weather. The rain cooled things down. Temperatures dropped and the air felt cooler. But the showers also led to waterlogging in some spots. Local roads got slow. Commuters faced delays. The India Meteorological Department, or IMD, shared a warning. It said moderate to heavy rain with thunderstorms could happen in Delhi-NCR in the next two to three hours. After that, the sky turned cloudy in several parts of the capital. Rain started in many areas soon after.

Heavy rain hit Central Delhi and caused waterlogging

Rainwater collected in multiple spots. One reported area was around the Jhandewalan Temple, close to Karol Bagh in Central New Delhi. In places like this, water on the road can slow vehicles. It also makes travel harder, especially in the morning when roads are crowded. The IMD had issued a caution too. It said there could be small traffic delays. It also noted a higher chance of minor crashes. Water may gather in low-lying areas and on some road stretches. People commuting were told to look at traffic updates before they start. They were asked to follow official alerts. They should also skip routes that often see standing water. Drivers were advised to take extra care on wet roads. They were also told to keep more time for the trip. With heavy rain, visibility can drop. Roads can become slippery, so riders of two-wheelers also need to be careful.

Delhi weather update for the next few days

After Monday rain, the IMD says Delhi should see partly cloudy skies. No rain is expected for the next six days. Daytime heat should stay in a mild band. Highs are mostly expected to be around 31 to 35°C. The seven day outlook shared on Sunday evening also points to dry weather in the city. On October 13, the high may be 32 to 34°C. The low is set to be 23 to 25°C. On October 14, highs could go up a bit to 33 to 35°C. Lows should stay at 23 to 25°C. On October 15, the high is expected to be 31 to 33°C. The low is likely to be 23 to 25°C. For October 16, the weather office expects a high of 32 to 34°C. The low may be 22 to 24°C. On October 17, the pattern should hold. Highs are likely near 32 to 34°C. Lows should be 22 to 24°C. Overall, partly cloudy skies with no rainfall are expected, per the department.

Temperatures fell in India’s capital region

After the rain, Delhi saw cooler weather during the day. The IMD said the top temperatures dropped by about 1 to 2 degrees Celsius in the last 24 hours. Night temperatures did not move much. In Delhi, the lowest readings were around 21 to 24 degrees Celsius. High readings stayed near 30 to 32 degrees Celsius. The showers have eased the heat for now. Still, the forecast points to day temperatures in the low to middle 30s in the next few days.

What Should Commuters Keep in Mind?

Commuters in Delhi NCR should stay aware of what is happening around them. Check the latest weather news and traffic updates. This matters more if your route takes you over low areas that often flood. Before you leave, look at traffic alerts. If you see water on the road, do not drive through it. Keep extra space from the vehicle ahead as roads get slick in the rain. The IMD says the days ahead should be dry. Still, things can shift fast. Watch the official notices in case there is a new rain warning. Delhi NCR Rain Today has made the air feel cooler. It has also led to waterlogging in some parts of the city. Skies are partly cloudy, and no rain is expected soon. For now, weather should feel more steady again.
