For Ajit Sharma, the idea behind the Movers Federation of India was born from a simple belief that the Indian relocation industry could become more professional, trusted and respected if genuine movers came together. After spending years watching the industry grow, he also saw the problems that came with it. Many honest and capable packers and movers were working hard to serve customers, yet there was no strong common body bringing them together, giving them a collective voice or helping set professional standards.

Customers faced their own difficulties. For someone planning a house move, finding a reliable moving company was not always easy. Unclear quotations, unexpected charges, poor communication, delays, damaged belongings and weak accountability could turn what should have been a routine relocation into a stressful experience. Ajit felt this gap needed attention.

The Movers Federation of India, or MFI, was created with that purpose in mind. Ajit wanted an organization that could bring genuine relocation companies together while also helping customers make better-informed choices. His idea went beyond giving moving companies a common identity. He wanted professionalism, ethical business practices, customer awareness and knowledge sharing to become a larger part of the Indian relocation industry.

“What started as an idea has gradually become a movement,” Ajit says. The federation has brought professionals from different cities, backgrounds and businesses into one community, with a shared belief that the future of the Indian relocation industry can be stronger and more respected.

The need for such a body became even more apparent when considering the difficulties faced by professional packers and movers. Companies that invested in trained teams, infrastructure, documentation and customer service often found themselves competing with operators who did not follow similar standards. This could create unfair competition and affect the reputation of the entire sector.

For Ajit, the answer was not to have individual companies try to solve every problem on their own. He believed the industry needed people to come together, share knowledge and work towards better standards. That belief continues to guide the work of MFI.

Being the voice of India's relocation industry also carries a daily responsibility for Ajit. He sees the role as listening first.

TOGETHER, WE MOVE THE INDUSTRY FORWARD

As a Co-Founder & Trustee of MFI, I take immense pride in the journey we have built together. What began as a shared vision has grown into a strong national platform representing unity, trust, professionalism and growth within India’s relocation industry.

As we look ahead to the 10th National Conference in Bengaluru in 2027, our journey continues with renewed energy and a shared commitment to building a stronger, more professional and globally respected industry.

Let us remain united, support one another, embrace change and create greater opportunities for every MFI member.

Together, we grow. Together, we lead.

Ramesh Jangra

SHAPING THE FUTURE OF RELOCATION

As President of the Movers Federation of India (MFI), I believe our industry is entering a new era—one driven by professionalism, knowledge, collaboration, innovation and trust.

*Through initiatives such as the Movers Academy for Learning (MAFL), MFI is investing in people, strengthening capabilities and raising professional standards across the relocation industry.

Our vision is clear: to build a stronger, smarter, more organised and globally respected Indian relocation industry—where knowledge creates excellence, collaboration creates opportunities, and trust creates lasting growth.

As we look towards the future, let us continue to learn, connect and grow together.

Together, we move the industry forward.

Together, we shape the future.

Saikat Bhattacharyya

With MAFL – Movers Academy for Learning, we are raising skills, standards and global opportunities.

The new era begins now. From India to the world—MFI moves forward together.

Member concerns, customer complaints, industry discussions and professional development all form part of the federation's work. As reflected in MFI’s decade-long journey of “10 Years of Trust. 1 Vision,” the federation believes that the industry grows stronger when businesses come together, share knowledge and work towards common standards. Representation, in his view, is not simply about speaking for businesses. It also means understanding what people are facing, encouraging collaboration and finding fair ways to address those concerns while building a more professional relocation industry.

Customer trust remains one of the biggest concerns in the relocation business. When families hand over their household belongings to a relocation company, they are also entrusting it with items that may carry memories and personal value. Ajit believes that trust has to be earned through transparency, accountability and professional conduct. This belief closely connects with MFI’s focus on being “Built on Trust, Driven by Standards,” while empowering businesses through knowledge, networking and better professional practices. As the federation looks towards a stronger global presence and closer international partnerships, maintaining these standards is essential to building confidence among customers and positioning Indian relocation companies on the global stage.

MFI has been working to help customers identify genuine relocation companies through membership and accreditation, industry guidelines, professional education and customer awareness. Customers are encouraged to verify a mover, understand the quotation, ask questions and insist on proper documentation instead of choosing a company simply because it offers the lowest price.

One case particularly stayed with Ajit. Mr. Vasanth S. N. had arranged for his daughter’s belongings to be moved from Bengaluru to Goa as she prepared to join the Indian Navy. The family had booked a local mover, but once the goods were in transit, the company demanded additional money beyond the agreed amount. When the family refused, the belongings were held back. The family first sought help from local authorities, but an incorrect address on the transportation documents made the matter harder to resolve. They later approached MFI. Ajit and his team took up the matter, spoke with those involved and worked towards a practical resolution. The belongings were eventually released without the family having to make the extra payment.

For Ajit, the case was about much more than money or a disagreement between two parties. A young woman was preparing to begin an important chapter of her career, while her family was dealing with unnecessary anxiety over her belongings. The experience strengthened his belief that MFI must be available when a genuine customer feels helpless. “Our responsibility is to listen, verify the facts, encourage accountability, and work towards a fair and practical resolution,” he says.

Ajit’s journey with MFI is closely tied to a larger ambition for the Indian relocation industry. He wants genuine movers to have a stronger voice, customers to have greater awareness and professional conduct to become a normal part of the business. For him, every household move carries a human story, and that makes trust especially important. “When an industry comes together with the right intention, it can change its own future.”

For Ajit Sharma and the Movers Federation of India, that belief continues to guide their work towards greater trust, better standards and a stronger future for genuine relocation professionals.
