India and China hold the 25th round of Special Representatives’ talks amid efforts to maintain stability along the border
Beijing, August 25, 2026: India’s National Security Advisor Ajit Doval held a high-level discussion with China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi in Beijing on Tuesday during the 25th round of talks between Special Representatives on the boundary issue between India and China. This high-level discussion is taking place as both the nations are working diplomatically to preserve peace along the borders.
Doval meets Chinese Vice-President
In the run up to the formal talks with Wang Yi, Doval also met Han Zheng, Vice President of the People’s Republic of China. This meeting was a chance for the two parties to deliberate about their relations in general as well as the boundary dispute that has been persisting between India and China for decades. The mechanism of the Special Representatives has been a crucial mode of discussion for New Delhi and Beijing.
Focus on border stability
The current negotiations are happening in the context of continuing attempts on the part of India and China to ensure stability along the Line of Actual Control (LAC). Communication channels at diplomatic as well as military levels have been employed by both sides to manage their differences so as not to impact their broader relationship. In the course of these negotiations, it is anticipated that both sides will review the situation with regard to the boundary issue.
Bilateral relations under discussion
These talks are also of great importance for the general bilateral relations between India and China, which include aspects such as trade, regional security, diplomacy, and other strategic concerns. It is also very crucial for both sides that the channel of communication remains open as both countries try to handle their differences through dialogue. The Beijing meeting takes place amid efforts by both sides to stabilize their relations through dialogue.
Continuing diplomatic engagement
The talks among Special Representatives in their 25th round highlight the significance of the boundary mechanism in the diplomacy between India and China. Though there are many differences between the two nations, the ongoing process of discussion at the high-level helps in addressing the sensitive matters and also keeping the border stable. The recent talks between Doval and Wang Yi are, therefore, being seen in the context of the future course of India-China relations.
