 The Centre announced the National Teachers Award 2026, with 48 school teachers selected from 27 states and 7 Union Territories

The National Teachers Awards 2026 have been declared by the Central Government, where 48 school teachers have been chosen for this esteemed award. This award is given to teachers who have made exemplary efforts in enhancing the quality of school education and the experience of learning of the students.These teachers are from various categories of institutions, including Kendriya Vidyalayas, Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas, Sainik Schools, PM SHRI Schools and Adarsh Janjatiya Schools.Out of the 48 chosen teachers, there are 26 male teachers and 22 female teachers. Teachers have been chosen from 27 states and seven Union Territories.

National Teachers Award 2026 to be Given Away on September 5

President Droupadi Murmu will present the National Teachers Award 2026 on September 5. This date is observed all over India as Teacher’s Day, which is the birthday of former President and noted educationist Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan.The award will acknowledge teachers whose devotion, creativity and hard work have brought about a big difference to their students and schools.As per the government, the aim behind giving away these awards is to bring into focus some of the finest teachers in the country.

Three Awardees for Uttar Pradesh

The list of Teachers Award 2026 consists of teachers from various states and Union Territories of India. There are three teachers from Uttar Pradesh in the list of selected awardees and two teachers each from Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, and Rajasthan.It is a diverse list of teachers working in various educational institutes and regions.This award is meant to honor teachers who have shown exceptional dedication towards their students and institutions.

Three-Stage Selection Procedure

For the National Teachers Award 2026, there was a three-stage selection procedure which was carried out in the districts, states and nationally.The selection procedure was coordinated by the Department of School Education and Literacy. The evaluation of the teachers was based on their performance in improving the education system and developing the students, teaching innovations, and inspiration to other teachers.According to the government, this award is not only about academic success but also the influence that teachers exert on the lives of their students.

Interactions Between PM Modi And The Teachers Winning The Awards

The National Teachers Award has also offered the opportunity for PM Modi to meet award-winning teachers in recent times.In 2024, PM Modi met the winners of National Teachers Award where 82 teachers won the award. During the meeting, a teacher from Tamil Nadu raised the issue of children preferring their native tongue in learning.PM Modi stressed the significance of education in native language and quoted the importance of Indian language as per the National Education Policy.In 2025, PM Modi met 45 teachers who won the national award. During the meeting, issues related to GST changes, laws for online games and atmanirbhar Bharat vision were discussed.

Teachers Day 2026 Celebrates the Contributions Made by Teachers
