A fire broke out in the NICU of Amravati District Women’s Hospital, where around 39 newborns were admitted
Amravati hospital: There was an outbreak of fire at the District Women’s Hospital at Amravati, in the state of Maharashtra, early Monday morning, around 3:30 AM. The fire had caused the death of three infants and injury to several others. According to reports, the fire had erupted in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), which is located on the third floor of the hospital. According to sources, there were about 39 infants present in the NICU at that time.
NICU Fire Disaster
Based on the information available, the fire broke out at about 3:30 am in the NICU. The fire was caused by what is believed to be an explosion of a ventilator. The occurrence of the fire has created a very dangerous situation for the patients admitted in the neonatal ward because of the critical condition they were under. The hospital employees have begun evacuation of the babies.
Several newborns were successfully evacuated from the danger zone; however, it is believed that three babies suffered from burns and died due to their injury.
Approximately Six Infants Reported Injured
