Uttam Kumar Birthplace in Ahiritola Decorated Too

Here, fans had yet another place from where they could associate themselves with the life of an actor who would later turn out to be one of the greatest actors of Bengali cinema. The decorations made the birthplace a visual representation of his journey from Kolkata to the Mahanayak of Bengali cinema.

Enduring Legacy of Uttam Kumar

The actor Uttam Kumar is known for occupying a distinct space in the history of Indian cinema. In fact, he is known for defining a certain era of Bengali films through his on-screen presence, style of acting and collaborations. In fact, his collaborations with Suchitra Sen have gone down in history as being among the greatest onscreen duos in Indian cinema and both of them have worked together in many films. However, his contributions are not confined to films alone. Rather, for generations of audiences, the actor has been associated with a certain time period of Bengali culture and films. Thus, the Birth Centenary of Uttam Kumar has transcended the significance of the occasion itself to become a celebration of an actor who still holds influence despite the passage of decades since his death. Through lighting of landmarks related to his life and celebrating his legacy throughout the year, the Mahanayak finds himself back in center stage in the cultural life of the city.
