Sonali Kulkarni shared her grief after the death of Nana Patekar. She said she has been thinking about the bond they built over the years. Nana Patekar, 75, reportedly passed away in Goa. The reports say he suffered a cardiac arrest early Thursday morning. He was rushed to a hospital once his condition worsened, but doctors were not able to save him. In an interview with SCREEN, Sonali looked back at how things began between them. She said she first felt uneasy around him. Over time, that changed into a kind and steady friendship. She also said that friendship later reached her family too.

Sonali Kulkarni talks about her first time meeting Nana Patekar They worked on multiple projects after that, such as Taxi No. 9211, Deool, and Dr Prakash Baba Amte. Still, Taxi No. 9211 was the first film they did together. Sonali says she felt uneasy at the start. She had not worked with Nana before. When she got a call for a look test, Nana was already busy shooting with John Abraham. After Sonali stepped out of her vanity van in costume, Nana noticed her right away. She claims he told her to take off her makeup. In his view, she had put on too much. Sonali was not scared. She answered that she had not even put makeup on. Her hairdresser then warned her to watch her words with Nana. Sonali feels that moment set the vibe for how they worked together. She says their light teasing became a pattern during Taxi No. 9211.

From Being Scared to Becoming Close Friends

Sonali once said she was nervous about Nana Patekar at first. Over time, she felt more at ease with him. Soon, they were close enough that she could tease him and joke around. She called him a kind person. She said he could reach out whenever he wanted, with no awkwardness. To her, that openness mattered. Sonali also spoke about his skills as an actor. She remembered seeing him work in a way that felt natural, not fully planned. She even pointed to Taxi No. 9211. That moment stayed with her, because she noticed the sadness and regret on Nana’s face. It was after his character showed up too late. She also liked how well he timed his comedy. She mentioned Welcome as one film where this stood out. In her view, Nana was warm and giving. She said he offered love, praise, and money without keeping track of every thing he gave.

Nana Patekar’s softer side

Sonali said Nana showed a lot of care during Deool. At that time, she was pregnant and still working on the Marathi film. When Nana found out she was expecting, he first got annoyed because she did not tell him. Soon after, that anger changed into strong protectiveness. She also remembered how she promoted the movie while she was very pregnant. Sonali said Nana laughed at the whole scene and found it funny. After her daughter, Kaveri, was born, Nana came to visit her. He also ensured that Kaveri watched Deool with her husband. One more moment stood out to Sonali. Nana arrived at her house in an auto-rickshaw. The driver was said to not recognize Nana at first. Only after Nana stepped out did the driver realize who it was. The driver then seemed uneasy, and Nana joked that the man could drive the auto himself.

Sonali Remembers His Work for Farmers

Sonali talked about Nana and what he did for farmers. She linked his actions to the NAAM Foundation and said his focus stayed on people who were struggling. In her view, Nana put real time and effort into helping them and easing their problems. Sonali also said Nana gave back to the community with no plan to get anything in return. She described him as a person who cared for others without limits. She added that he did not chase praise, and he was not driven by rewards.

It will take time to deal with that loss After Nana Patekar passed away, Sonali said she is still trying to absorb what happened. She felt that she will need time to accept that someone she worked with for years is not in the world anymore. His death has shaken the film world. Many well known people from politics and entertainment have sent messages of sympathy. The veteran actor is also expected to get a state funeral with full honours. Sonali Kulkarni, though, sees it a bit differently. To her, Nana Patekar’s impact was more than his famous roles. She remembers a man who was strict on the job but kind in his own way. She also describes him as a steady friend who created a close connection with the people around him.
