Heavy rain and thunderstorms hit Delhi as the IMD issues red and orange alerts for the capital.
The rainstorm and thunder caused disruptions in air travel in the nation’s capital city on Monday, as 15 flights were rerouted from Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi due to bad weather impacting flights. The flights were rerouted following heavy rainfall in many parts of Delhi, which brought respite from the humidity seen in the previous day while causing waterlogging in different places.
Flights Diverted to Jaipur
As per a senior official from Delhi airport, the above-mentioned flights have been diverted from Delhi to Jaipur owing to the worsening weather situation.The bad weather conditions made operations extremely difficult for the flights coming in and taking off from Indira Gandhi International Airport. Passengers have been suggested that they keep themselves updated regarding the latest status of their flights from their respective airlines.
Delhi Records Heavy Rainfall
It was observed that Delhi had received rainfall ranging from 18 mm to 28 mm up till 11:30 am on Monday according to weather statistics. The maximum rainfall was reported in Chhatarpur of South Delhi region during the time span. There were several parts of Delhi city where there were showers, and water logging was seen on roads. There was a difference in weather due to rainfall after Sunday.
IMD Issues Red and Orange Alerts
Red and orange warnings have been issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) for certain areas of Delhi due to expectations of more rainfall and thunderstorms. The weather department has issued warnings regarding rainfall with thunderstorms and gusty winds. The speed of winds may touch up to 40 kmph within the next few hours.The authorities are keeping an eye on the current situation because further rainfall may cause some trouble for road and air traffic.
