- Mumbai, July 28, 2026: Indian benchmark equity indices opened higher on Tuesday, supported by falling crude oil prices and strong buying in information technology (IT) stocks. Easing geopolitical tensions in West Asia also improved investor confidence, helping the markets extend their gains.

The BSE Sensex climbed 152.70 points to 76,988.48 during early trade, while the NSE Nifty 50 advanced 44.95 points to 24,040.90.
The market's upward momentum was driven by buying in major IT companies. Tech Mahindra, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), Infosys, HCL Technologies, Hindustan Unilever, and Eternal were among the top gainers in early trading.
However, some stocks traded in the red. Bharat Electronics, NTPC, Power Grid Corporation, and State Bank of India (SBI) were among the notable laggards.
Global crude oil prices continued to decline, providing relief to investors. Brent crude, the international benchmark, fell 1.44% to $87.09 per barrel.
According to market experts, optimism over renewed diplomatic talks with Iran has eased concerns about potential disruptions in global oil supplies, contributing to the decline in crude prices.
"Crude oil prices extended their decline as optimism over renewed talks with Iran eased concerns about potential supply disruptions," said Ponmudi R., CEO of Enrich Money, an online trading and wealth-tech firm.
Despite the positive start, Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) remained net sellers in the Indian equity market. Exchange data showed that FIIs offloaded shares worth ₹1,688.23 crore on Monday, July 27, 2026.
Asian markets presented a mixed
picture. South Korea's KOSPI witnessed a sharp decline of 9.34%, while Japan's Nikkei 225, China's Shanghai SSE Composite, and Hong Kong's Hang Seng also traded lower. Meanwhile, U.S. markets ended the previous session on a mixed note.
Indian equities had ended Monday on a strong note. The Sensex surged 776.01 points (1.02%) to close at 76,835.78, while the Nifty gained 228.50 points (0.96%) to settle at 23,995.95.
With lower oil prices, continued strength in IT stocks, and easing geopolitical concerns, investors will closely monitor global developments and foreign investment flows for further market direction.
