Sambit Patra Slams CJP Protest, Accuses Rahul Gandhi of Spreading Anarchy

New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has lashed out against the opposition on Saturday over the Jantar Mantar protest in New Delhi. In his reaction to the protest, BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra called it a "flop show" and termed it as the victory of democracy over mobocracy. Patra went ahead and even accused the Congress party president and Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi of trying to create anarchy in the country with the help of foreign countries. Patra, in a statement to reporters at a press conference held in the BJP office, said that the rally was an attempt to take Delhi and the whole nation hostage but that the rally has failed to meet its objectives. Police have arrested hundreds of youth and leaders who were going to attend the rally.

Sambit Patra Claims Democracy has Prevailed

Sambit Patra claims that the images of events at Jantar Mantar being aired on television and social media networks do not portray the reality about India. In his view, the country is peaceful and progressing well thanks to good governance.  He claims that there were attempts to incite violence and create trouble and disturbance in the national capital. The situation was always under control and the people who tried to create disorder were unsuccessful in their endeavor. In his view, what happened in the capital of India was a reflection of the power of democracy and he views this protest as a failed attempt at creating instability. This is the view of the BJP on the protest, but the issues of the protest are still part of the political discussion.

BJP Leader Criticizes Rahul Gandhi

Patra also criticized Rahul Gandhi regarding the comments made by him regarding President Droupadi Murmu and the allegations of “vote chori” or electoral malpractice made by the opposition INDIA group. It is reported that Rahul Gandhi had commented on Friday that President had not turned down the allegations of the opposition in a meeting. Commenting on Gandhi’s comments, Patra raised questions on Gandhi’s leadership role and attacked Gandhi using harsh language. According to Patra, the Congress leader was sowing confusion among the people and was trying to destabilize the nation. BJP has always been criticizing the opposition for its allegations related to the electoral process. However, allegations of electoral malpractices should be discussed on the basis of evidence and relevant replies.

Intensified Deployment of Security Personnel in Central Delhi

There was an increased deployment of security in Central Delhi on Saturday as the government was making preparations for the demonstration that was scheduled to take place at Jantar Mantar. Several thousand security personnel were posted in an attempt to ensure that there were no disturbances and that law and order prevailed. Several persons were arrested by police officials as they attempted to access the site of the demonstration. The protest rally was against the Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar due to the allegations associated with the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. This procedure has been criticized by opposition leaders as there have been questions asked regarding preparation and revision of electoral rolls. Allegations associated with possible manipulation of electoral rolls and Form 6 have been made. The above allegations are political and must be evaluated with regard to the documentary evidence.

Transparency in Elections is Still a Big Political Problem

The rally has raised the political conflict between the BJP and other parties concerning the operations of the electoral system. Even as the BJP has referred to the protest as a move to disrupt orderliness, the problems that were raised by the demonstrators have to do with electoral transparency, voting, and problems in the revising of voters' lists. The problem points out the existing political differences between the ruling party and the opposition about the integrity and management of the electoral process. In light of continued political discussions, more official reports about the detention of people, the protest, and the accusation against the Election Commission will help to understand the details of the event. For the time being, this case has contributed to the existing political conflict between the BJP and other parties on electoral accountability.
